Rising 7th Grade Connections Recruitment for 2026-2027
Updated

It's time to apply! Learn more about Year-long Connections for rising 7th graders.

Current 6th grade students have the opportunity to express interest in year-long connections classes for the 2026-2027 school year:

Students interested in taking Spanish should submit the interest form below.

Students interested in taking Dance should submit the interest form below and attend auditions at OMS on Friday March 27th from 4:30- 6:30.

Students interested in taking Theater need to submit both the interest form and an audition video, in which students will perform a monologue. Monologue submissions are completed using the link or QR code below.

Should more students apply for a given program, a lottery will be conducted to determine student placement. All students with interest in Spanish, Dance or Theater should consider submitting the form and completing the monologue (Theater) or audition (Dance).

Please Note: Band, Chorus and Orchestra are also year-long programs. Students are scheduled for two Connections classes. Therefore, choices have to be made about which classes to pursue. OMS is like a cruise ship! So many opportunities, but you need to choose which programs are best for you!

Spanish (Provides a High School Credit)

Are you interested in developing a sense of cultural pluralism and appreciation of other cultures though their music, food, art, customs, language, etc.? Now is a great time to explore the world of a foreign language study! If scheduled for this program, you will participate as a 7th and 8th grader in a yearlong Spanish connections class. Students who successfully complete this course in middle school will receive a Carnegie Unit credit for high school and they will be ready to enter the second year of Spanish in the ninth grade. This course should be treated as an academic course due to its content and high level of accountability. Studies suggest that children who study another language score higher on basic skills such as reading and math, score significantly higher on SAT and ACT tests, enhance critical listening skills, and tend to be more fluent when older. These are some of the great benefits of taking a foreign language in middle school.

Theater

Theater is a year-long class for 7th graders and geared toward students who have interest in learning all aspects of producing a show. There will be a performance for the parents at the end of the semester. Students will learn how to audition, act, build scenery, and put together a costume. Students will also learn vital collaborative skills through an ensemble experience that teaches focus, confidence, tolerance, and patience. The class focuses on high school level of reading comprehension, student collaboration, and a quality performance.

Dance

Dancers at Osborne Middle School receive foundational training in ballet, jazz, and contemporary modern through the semester-based program. The year-long program provides dancers with more advanced training in these styles and provides additional opportunities for growth and performance. Dancers in both programs perform multiple dances in our Fall and/or Spring Recital. Students in the semester-based program will perform in the recital for that semester, while students in the year-long program will perform in both recitals. In addition to movement-based learning and choreography, students will study dance history, dance terminology, and reflective practices to support the development of the whole learner.

***Please note that one 7th grade connections class will be semester-based, and one will be year-long
