Rising 6th Grade Information

Principal's Message from Dr. Callahan

Dear Rising 6th grade OMS Families,

On behalf of the entire Osborne Middle School community, I want to extend a warm welcome to you and all of our Rising 6th grade students! We understand that transitioning to middle school can be an exciting, and yet sometimes a nervous experience, so we are committed to making this transition a smooth and positive one for students and their families. With this in mind, we would like to share information with you about a series of rising 6th grade events scheduled for this month. These events will include student visits to Osborne during the school day and family nights at Osborne in the evening, as detailed below:

  • Student Visit - Fort Daniel & Puckett's Mill ES: Wednesday, March 25, 9:45 am - 10:45 am
  • Student Visit - Duncan Creek ES: Thursday, March 26, 9:45 am - 10:45 am

If you have enrolled from another elementary school, you are welcome to join on either day. Simply check-in at the front desk and let us know you are here!

During the 5th grade student visits, our amazing peer leaders and cheerleaders will warmly welcome our future Hawks as they enter Osborne for the very first time. Your student will then enjoy a vibrant showcase of Osborne's talented staff and students, including performances by our talented band, chorus, and orchestra ensembles. This will be followed by an opportunity to meet some of our friendly 6th grade students, dedicated teachers, and our administrative team.

Please note that 5th grade students will be screened through our Evolv Security system upon arrival. All GCPS middle and high schools now screen all students and visitors upon entering the building.

Rising Hawks Student & Parent Family Nights

We extend a special invitation to all rising 6th grade families, especially those with a child entering middle school for the very first time, to attend one of our Rising Hawks Student & Parent Family Nights. Family activities, spirit wear sales, and Hawks Training Camp registration will all be available beginning at 5:30 pm, with the formal presentation sessions beginning at 6:00 pm inside the cafeteria, so we encourage all families to arrive early.  

  • Family Night - Fort Daniel ES & Puckett's Mill ES: Wednesday, March 25, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm (activities begin at 5:30 pm)
  • Family Night - Duncan Creek ES: Thursday, March 26, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm (activities begin at 5:30 pm)

Highlights:

  • Informative Presentations: Hear from our principal, assistant principal, counselor, academic teachers, athletics coaches, and our Fine Arts teachers (band, chorus, orchestra & dance).
  • Get Connected: Explore a variety of interactive stations in the main hallway, including the OMS spirit wear table, and Hawks Training Summer Camp table.

Our Hawks Training Summer Camp is scheduled for July 14th- 16th. Please visit the table at Parent Night to sign up!

Rising 6th Grade Parent Nights

Rising 6th Parent Night is 6-7:30pm on March 25 for PMES and FDES and on March 26 for DCES.

We are excited to welcome our future Hawks to Osborne Middle School this coming fall. Our rising 6th Grade Family Nights are a great way to find out more about what your student's middle school experience will entail. You will be able to see our facilities, meet the principal, and learn more about academics, athletic programs, PBIS, and activities our school offers.

The Transition from Elementary School

Students who completed the previous school year at one of our feeder elementary schools (Duncan Creek ES, Fort Daniel ES, or Puckett's Mill ES) do not need to complete Online Registration or make a registration appointment. All information will roll over to OMS. Please make sure that you update any information that might have changed during the summer at the beginning of the school year to ensure we have up to date contact information and immunization records.
