Weekly Team Rotation:

Students are assigned to one of three cohorts: Team A, Team B, or Team C. Students should only come to meetings during their team’s designated rotation week.

When a team is active, team members should adhere to the following daily start times:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday at 9:00AM for Daily Live Announcements
  • Wednesday, Friday at 8:15AM to prep for the Friday Hawkeye News Show

Meeting Location:

Media Center

Mission:

To give students an opportunity to learn and utilize skills associated with televising a live news show.

Planned Activities:

The Broadcast Club will plan and implement all activities required to televise our live Hawkeye News Show each week: finding stories of interest, filming or photographing various school activities, writing a script, editing videos and photographs, selecting music, working with teams of students who will be the live talent each week, and operating the various equipment required to make the live show possible.

In addition to our weekly showcase, our team is in the studio every morning to bring you live daily announcements, ensuring the student body stays informed and connected in real-time. Members gain hands-on experience with professional equipment, digital storytelling, and live broadcast performance

Student Requirements:

Interested students must complete an application and request three teachers to complete recommendations (using teachers who have known the students more than 2-3 weeks). Interested students must have adequate communication and literacy skills. Applications must be returned to the sponsor in the required time frame (at the beginning of the school year). The Broadcast Club will be limited to no more than eighteen members selected from all applicants. Students will be expected to attend all of their team’s meetings, which will take place at 9:00 AM on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday mornings and 8:15 on Wednesday and Friday mornings on their team’s rotation week. Students will have to provide their own transportation.

Permission Forms:

Parents must complete a permission form when students apply to participate in the Broadcast Club. Club members’ parents must also complete a video release form for the school year in which their child will participate in the Broadcast Club.
