Cheerleading
Mission:
The mission of the Osborne Middle School Cheerleading program is to teach, develop, organize, and support student athletes as they learn the fundamentals of cheerleading while promoting school spirit and unity. Our program strives to instill life lessons and values emphasizing character, accountability, leadership, respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship, both on and off the sidelines.
Description of Activities:
Cheerleaders are selected through a one-week tryout process. We practice before school and attend all OMS basketball games.
Eligibility: Only academically eligible 6th -8th grade students are allowed to participate in tryouts, practices, exhibitions, and game events. Academic eligibility is determined on the first day of the semester and is based on students having passed five out of six courses the previous semester.
Tryout Information:
- In order to try-out for cheerleading, you must have the following tasks completed by March 11th (OMS 6th & 7th) and April 15th (DCES, PMES, & FDES 5th)*
- All information is being collected digitally through Google Classroom and Rank One
- Join OMS Cheerleading Google Classroom - Code:dtapclkz ** You must be logged into your student account to join the Google Classroom
- In addition to:
- Signed OMS Guardian Permission Form
- Personal Cheerleader Information Form
- You must have passed 5 out of 6 classes
- Teacher Recommendation Forms completed by three different OMS teachers.
- Two of these must be by academic teachers.
- Rising 6th grade students may use teacher recommendation from their 5th grade teacher(s), who teach within Gwinnett County.
Current 6th & 7th OMS Students:
- March 18th - A video audition must be completed and turned into Google Classroom
- Students will receive a direct message letting them know if they will be invited to tryouts in-person on March 20th.
- March 23rd, March 24th, March 30th, March 31st, April 1st, & April 2nd
- In-person Cheerleading tryouts will be held:
- March 23rd & March 24th from 4:30-6:00 pm
- March 30th, March 31st, April 1st, & April 2nd from 4:30-6:30 pm in the gym at the middle school.
- Students will be released as soon as their tryout is over on April 2nd
Current Mill Creek Cluster Elementary Students:
- Current 5th graders at Duncan Creek, Puckett’s Mill, & Fort Daniel Elementary Schools
- Video Submission due April 15 - A video audition must be completed and turned into Google Classroom
- Students will receive a direct message letting them know if they will be invited to tryouts in-person on April 17th.
- In-person Cheerleading tryouts will be held:
- April 20 - 22 from 4:30-6:00 pm
- April 23 will begin at 4:30 pm
- Students will be released as soon as their tryout is over on April 23rd
New to the Mill Creek Cluster:
For those students moving into the Mill Creek Cluster at the beginning of the 2026 - 2027 school year, they will have the opportunity to try=out for the squad during the month of August. We will post tryout dates & information on the school website and EBB at school.
Practices:
Typically on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:00 a.m. Days may change due to gym availability. Additional practices may be added based on team readiness or school scheduling.

Any current 8th graders interested in cheering for MCHS for 2026-2027 should refer to the Tryout Info 2026 document. Please note that this information is for cheerleading at Mill Creek HS and not at OMS.
